Every year around this time I get the same advice from someone, usually the guy at the tyre shop, that I should do a coolant flush before the heat really kicks in. My Cherokee has never overheated and the coolant looks clean enough from what I can see in the bottle, so half of me thinks this is just a way to get me into the workshop for an easy invoice. The other half remembers how miserable last August was and doesn't fancy a breakdown in the middle of it. I asked in a Jeep group and one guy told me to explore this page on radiator repair before deciding, which was actually useful because it explained the difference between a flush and an actual inspection, and I hadn't realised those were two separate things. Still not sure though, is there a mileage or age point where it genuinely matters, or is it one of those things that only matters once something's already gone wrong? I'd rather spend the money on a proper check now than a tow truck later, but I don't want to be talked into work I don't need either.
