Porsche Cayenne gearbox hesitates when cold, how do you pick a specialist? - darianlane - 10-22-2026

This started small and now it is on my mind every morning, so I figured I would ask. I have a 2013 Porsche Cayenne that I use for the school run and family weekends. For about a month now, when I start it early and shift into drive, the car waits a second or two before it moves, almost like it is thinking. Then it goes with a soft thump. After ten minutes of driving it feels normal again, which makes me doubt myself. My wife thinks I am worrying too much, but I notice the delay every time. A neighbor who owns an older Panamera said it could be dirty gearbox oil, and my cousin said it might be a sensor. I did not like guessing, so I read a bit one night. I opened a page about Porsche cars on a Sharjah website to understand how the automatic gearbox, the oil and the control unit work together. It explained that a cold gearbox can act differently when the oil is old, and that some delays come from small parts, not a full failure. That helped me stay calm. Then a colleague told me to look for a Certified Porsche transmission specialist in Industrial Area 10 and not just any garage, because he said the wrong hands can make a small issue much bigger. I agree with that, but I really do not know how to tell who is truly good. So I have some questions. What should I ask a garage before I leave my keys, like which scan tool they use or if they have worked on many Cayennes? Is a delay only when the car is cold a small warning, or something to fix quickly? Should the gearbox oil be changed at a fixed distance on these cars, even if the manual says it is lifetime oil? And how long does a normal check take, because we only have one car at home? If you had the same delay on your Cayenne or another Porsche, please tell me what the cause was and roughly what you paid. Thank you.
