My Lincoln MKX needs new front pads and rear pads, and I have been calling garages in Al Quoz all week. The prices are very different, and it is starting to bother me. One place quoted almost half of what the second place wanted. The cheap one did not explain what is included, and the other one sent a full list with pads, discs, labour and fluid. I am on a tight budget this month, so my heart says go cheap. My head says brakes are not the place to save money. The car has about ninety thousand kilometres, and I drive it to work every day in heavy traffic. I looked online for an Affordable Lincoln brake repair shop in Al Quoz, but every page said cheap and best at the same time, so I could not tell what is real. A friend says Lincoln parts are harder to find, and a cheap shop may use a part that is not made for this car. Another friend says a good small garage does the same job for much less than the dealer. How do I tell a fair low price from a risky one? Should I ask them to write the brand of the pads on the quote? Do I need to change the discs now, or can I wait? Is it normal for them to show me the old pads? How long should the job take? If you did a brake job on a budget, please tell me what you paid, what parts you chose, and what you would do differently.
