U4GM Explains PoE 2 Decay Phase DPS Race Tactics - Glico - 07-23-2026

Most Tier 16 Devourer of Hope deaths come from treating the encounter like a normal damage check. It is not. Players who enter with shaky chaos resistance or a thin effective health pool usually lose the arena long before the boss reaches enrage. Spending a little Path of Exile 2 Currency on defensive gaps is often cheaper than repeatedly replacing maps and consumables after failed attempts.
Build for the arena before building for the kill

The practical entry point is positive thirty percent chaos resistance, roughly five thousand combined Life and Energy Shield, plus either eighteen thousand Armor or reliable Evasion supported by Wind Dancer. Armor feels better for slower melee characters that may eat a tail swipe. Evasion is more comfortable for ranged builds, but only when movement stays disciplined. Pure glass-cannon setups can win quickly, yet one missed toxic volley usually ends the run.

These thresholds are not a promise that every hit becomes harmless. They create room for one bad read, which matters more than a small paper-DPS increase. Players often overlook movement speed here as well. It does not replace mitigation, but it makes the boss's tracking patterns far less demanding.
Phase one rewards patience more than rolling early

When Devourer of Hope arches its back and flashes green, expect the eight-projectile Toxic Volley after a short delay. Run a tight circle around the boss first, then roll through the incoming line at the last safe moment. Early rolls waste your invulnerability frames and leave you caught by the tracking. Stay on its side or front quarter; lingering behind it invites the heavy bleed tail sweep.
  • Save bleed removal for a confirmed tail hit rather than using it on minor chip damage.
  • Do not stand still to finish a long attack animation when the green volley telegraph appears.
  • Ranged builds should keep distance only until the arena becomes cluttered, then rotate around the boss instead.
The burrow phase separates clean play from panic

At sixty percent health, damage stops mattering because the boss becomes immune underground. Watch the dust cloud, not your damage meter. It follows your position until it freezes, then the eruption slam is imminent. Count a beat and roll at maximum range away from the stopped cloud. This is easier for mobile bow and caster setups; melee players should avoid committing to slow recovery attacks as the health threshold approaches.

Spend burst damage when the floor starts disappearing
The thirty percent enrage is the real clock. Faster actions and expanding decay pools punish builds that rely on long repositioning windows. Hold offensive flasks, Vaal skills, and major cooldowns for this section. For players preparing several attempts, it can make sense to buy POE 2 Orbs for a targeted resistance or life upgrade instead of chasing a costly damage roll, because a stable kill is more valuable than a fast failed one.
